Before & After Inspiration

Our Door Paint at a Glance

Acrylic Protect is an acrylic-based paint with a satin finish, specially developed for dimensionally stable substrates and surfaces with paint-on-paint contact—such as doors, door frames and windows. It provides a smooth, durable surface, is easy to maintain, UV-resistant and available in numerous colour shades. Acrylic Protect is the ideal choice for anyone wanting to paint doors or painting interior doors.

Worn, scratched or yellowed doors are immediately noticeable and can severely detract from the overall impression of a room. A fresh coat of paint transforms even the oldest door into a real eye-catcher. Before-and-after comparisons repeatedly show how impressive the difference can be after painting doors—from worn and dull to smooth, modern and stylish.

Why the Right Door Colour Makes All the Difference

Painting doors is significantly cheaper than buying new ones and offers maximum design freedom. Instead of replacing worn-out doors, a fresh coat of paint is enough to give them a modern appearance. Acrylic Protect is water-based, low-odour and environmentally friendly – ideal for interior spaces where you don't want to deal with strong solvent fumes for long. Thanks to its UV resistance, the paint doesn't yellow, which is particularly important if you want to paint doors white. Whether classic white, subtle shades of grey or bold colour accents – with Acrylic Protect, every door becomes an individual design element.

Questions & Answers

How do I apply Acrylic Protect correctly when painting doors?

chevronBottom

Sand the substrate to improve adhesion. Ensure the surface is clean and grease-free – use a pre-cleaner if necessary. For metal surfaces such as door handles or metal frames, remove rust first and apply a rust protection treatment. Mix the paint well and add the supplied WB pigment. Apply one coat with a brush or foam roller and allow to dry for approximately 8 hours at 20 °C. We recommend approximately 2 coats for an optimum result.

What is the difference between Acrylic Protect and Acrylic Protect+ when painting door frames?

chevronBottom

Acrylic Protect is a dimensionally stable paint developed for dimensionally stable substrates and surfaces with paint-on-paint contact, such as doors and windows. Acrylic Protect+ is a flexible paint for non-dimensionally stable or warping substrates. For painting door frames and all common interior doors, Acrylic Protect is the right choice, as doors and frames are dimensionally stable.

How many coats do I need when painting doors?

chevronBottom

For even coverage and durability, two coats are usually required. On highly absorbent surfaces or when painting over dark colours, a third coat may be necessary. You should allow approximately 8 hours drying time between coats at 20 °C.

What is the minimum temperature required when painting doors?

chevronBottom

Acrylic Protect must be applied at a minimum of +8 °C (substrate, room and paint temperature). The optimal application temperature is 20 °C. Applying below the minimum temperature can lead to problems with coverage and drying.

How much paint do I need per m²?

chevronBottom

The coverage of Acrylic Protect is approximately 110–130 g/m² per coat. With two recommended coats, you will need approximately 220–260 g/m² in total. On rough or highly absorbent surfaces, coverage may be higher. A standard door has approximately 1.5–2 m² of surface area per side.

Is Acrylic Protect matt or glossy – what is suitable for painting doors white?

chevronBottom

Acrylic Protect has a satin finish – an elegant blend of subtly glossy and easy to care for. The Pastel and Polar White variants have a matt finish. For painting doors white, Acrylic Protect Polar White is particularly suitable, as it is already pre-tinted and does not require any additional pigment.

Is Acrylic Protect UV-resistant?

chevronBottom

Yes, Acrylic Protect is UV-resistant. This means that the paint will not crack or peel when exposed to sunlight. This is particularly important for doors positioned near windows or exposed to direct light. Please note that some colour shades – especially bold colours such as red – may change slightly over time when used outdoors.

Can I apply Acrylic Protect with a spray gun – ideal for painting interior doors?

chevronBottom

Yes, you can apply Acrylic Protect with a spray gun. If you'd like to thin the paint for spraying, you can add up to 5% water. Spraying is particularly well suited for painting interior doors, as it produces an even, smooth surface without brush marks.

How do I clean my tools after painting doors?

chevronBottom

As Acrylic Protect is a water-based paint, brushes, rollers and other accessories can be cleaned easily with water straight after use. It's important to clean the tools immediately after painting, before the paint starts to dry.

Is there a transparent paint for protecting doors?

chevronBottom

Yes, our 2K PU Clear Coat can be used as a transparent protective layer on doors. It is a universal top coat that can be applied to wood, metal and many other surfaces. Please note that the untinted version of Acrylic Protect is not transparent – it has a milky-white appearance.
