For substrate preparation with epoxy resin, three specially developed systems are available: the 2K Epoxy Resin Primer as a universal base coat, the 2K EP Bonding Primer for smooth and non-porous substrates, and 2K EP Levelling Compound for levelling uneven surfaces. All three products are formulated on an epoxy resin basis and coordinated to ensure optimal adhesion properties for the subsequent main coating. Select the appropriate system for your substrate and project.

The effect of a professionally applied Epoxy Resin Primer is evident in the final result of the main coating: surfaces that tend to develop delamination, blisters, or uneven appearance without priming are transformed into uniform, firmly bonded surfaces through the targeted use of an epoxy resin primer system. A carefully primed surface is the prerequisite for a professional finish – visible in every completed project.

Why use an Epoxy Resin Primer?

The right primer is always the first step towards a successful project. It is essential for a good overall result and should not be skipped. An Epoxy Resin Primer based on epoxy resin offers decisive advantages over uncoated or incorrectly prepared substrates:

  • promotes adhesion – creates a durable bonding surface for the subsequent main coating
  • system compatible – all three products are coordinated with each other and specially developed for epoxy resin systems
  • versatile – suitable for absorbent, smooth and uneven substrates in industrial, commercial and residential areas
  • levelling – the 2K EP Levelling Compound reliably levels out unevenness from 0.5 mm before coating
  • promotes adhesion on difficult substrates – the 2K EP Bonding Primer enables secure adhesion on smooth surfaces such as tiles or glass
  • easy to apply – clear application instructions for every substrate and every application

FAQ - Questions & Answers about Epoxy Resin Primer

What is an Epoxy Resin Primer?

chevronBottom

An Epoxy Resin Primer is a primer based on epoxy resin. It is applied as the first layer onto the substrate to permanently ensure the adhesion of the subsequent main coating. Different systems are used depending on the type of substrate.

What is an epoxy resin primer used for?

chevronBottom

An epoxy resin primer is required to optimally prepare the substrate for the main coating. It seals porous surfaces, promotes adhesion on smooth or difficult substrates, and evens out minor imperfections where necessary. Without a professional primer, the main coating may fail to adhere properly, flake off, or deliver an uneven result.

Which Epoxy Resin Primer is the right one for my substrate?

chevronBottom

The choice of the right system depends on the substrate. On absorbent substrates such as concrete or screed, the 2K EP Primer is recommended. On smooth, non-absorbent surfaces such as tiles or glass, the 2K EP Bonding Primer is used. For unevenness of more than 0.5 mm, 2K EP Levelling Compound should be used for surface levelling before coating.

How is an Epoxy Resin Primer applied?

chevronBottom

The 2K EP Primer is applied evenly to the clean, dry surface after surface preparation and must cure completely before the next coat. The 2K EP Bonding Primer is rolled or brushed onto smooth surfaces to ensure adhesion of the subsequent coat. 2K EP Levelling Compound is mixed and poured or applied onto the uneven surface, allowing it to self-level and create an even base. Detailed application instructions can be found on the respective product pages.

Is an epoxy resin primer harmful or dangerous?

chevronBottom

The primer contains synthetic resin, which in its liquid state must not come into contact with skin or eyes. The primer must always be kept away from children and pets. Once fully cured, the resin is not harmful to health.
